Brentford +0 handicap at odds of 1.98

Crystal Palace v Brentford
English Premier League
Saturday 2pm (UTC)

Brentford took the Premier League by storm with a stunning 2-0 win over Arsenal in the curtain raiser. Their high quality opponents never threatened, proving the Bees are capable of competing at this level. Their opponents this weekend, Crystal Palace, were very disappointing against Chelsea. New manager Patrick Vieira is unproven at this level, and has issues with star player Wilfried Zaha wanting to leave. The Eagles also lost key defenders Gary Cahill, Scott Dann and Patrick van Aanholt.

Buoyed by their heroics last week, Brentford look a great bet to take something from Selhurst Park. If you’re feeling brave, the win at 2.85 is also worth a shot, but the insurance of the +0 handicap here appeals.

Lazio to win at odds of 1.77

Empoli v Lazio
Italian Serie A
Saturday 6:45pm (UTC)

Lazio have had a good summer, hiring manager Mauricio Sarri and signing influential players like Pedro from Roma, Felipe Anderson from West Ham and Elseid Hysaj from Napoli. They won’t be troubling Juventus and the big boys at the top of the league, but they do look set for an improvement this season. Empoli were promoted back to Serie A this season and will struggle against the established quality of players like Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinković-Savić. A price of 1.77 on Lazio is attractive against weak opponents on the opening day of Serie A.

Chelsea to win at odds of 1.78

Arsenal v Chelsea
English Premier League
Sunday 3:30pm (UTC)

Arsenal are in a real mess – an opening day loss to newly promoted Brentford has helped prove that. Injury and illness concerns dog the Gunners, with strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah all doubtful. Thomas Partey will also miss this London derby, leaving Mikel Arteta short on big game players. Chelsea made light work of Crystal Palace last week, and have since signed £97.5m striker Romelu Lukaku. The European champions will be eyeing a title bid this season (especially after Man City’s opening day loss) and should have too much for a beleaguered Arsenal.
