Strategic Shift from Layer-1
Building on insights gathered while constructing Ondo Perps, the team determined that trade execution speed—rather than base-layer settlement capacity—presents the primary barrier to matching traditional exchange performance.
Consequently, plans for a dedicated Ondo Chain have evolved into a unified execution framework. CEO Ian De Bode clarified that the firm will not run both systems simultaneously, positioning the new architecture as a direct evolution of its original roadmap.
Hardware Isolation and Multi-Party Attestation
The network separates transaction matching from final settlement by utilizing Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). These hardware enclaves process order matching, margin calculations, and liquidations off-chain without exposing sensitive order flow or position data to public view.
To ensure integrity, a decentralized set of multi-party attestors verifies code measurements before provisioning enclave operating keys. Under this quorum model, no individual operator possesses the capability to alter network code, reconstruct complete cryptographic keys, or initiate unauthorized asset transfers.
Deployment with Ondo Perps and Collateral Options
The infrastructure is already operational via Ondo Perps, a non-U.S. perpetual futures venue introduced earlier in the month. Offering up to 20x leverage on continuous equity and commodity derivatives, the platform permits traders to post tokenized real-world assets as collateral.
Beyond derivatives, the general-purpose environment is structured to accommodate spot markets, structured debt products, lending protocols, and non-financial computations requiring verifiable privacy.
Ecosystem Governance and Broker-Dealer Support
The native ONDO token continues its role governing ecosystem parameters and real-world asset protocols, with future plans to integrate tokenized incentives into network validation and watcher node networks.
Concurrently, Ondo’s SEC-registered broker-dealer subsidiary, Oasis Pro Markets, recently obtained expanded FINRA authorizations covering National Market System shares, exchange-traded funds, mutual funds, and initial public offerings.
While these regulatory clearances provide structured settlement avenues across fiat and stablecoins for eligible U.S. participants, access to specific trading venues like Ondo Perps remains governed by distinct jurisdiction-specific compliance guidelines.
